Up to 5000 people, mostly in Anonymous/Guy Fawkes masks, gathered in Trafalgar Square last night following a call to protest against austerity, surveillance and a range of other issues.

On the base of Nelsons column protesters chanted “One solution: Revolution”, “Whose streets? Our streets!” and “who killed Mark Duggan? Police killed Mark Duggan” as fireworks were shot into the air.

The march had a buoyant, celebratory mood as it headed down to Parliament in a recreation of the scene from the film V for Vendetta.

Russell Brand who has been effectively amplifying the same causes and campaigns recently, joined and the parade continued past Parliament square to Buckingham Palace and the BBC headquarters.

The march was twice as big as last year.
